    STEP 1: CHOOSE A TOPIC

Before you start writing a research paper, you must first have a topic for your paper. There are vast ranges of topics you can select, choose the one of your best interest. Select a subject you can manage and avoid topics that are too technical or specialized.

     STEP 2: DO RESEARCH

Surf the internet to get general or basic information about the topic you selected. The library also provides useful information so you need to pay a visit there too as you gather your information. In the process of doing so remember to jot down the full bibliographical information (author, title, place of publication, URLs,) remember an article without bibliographical information is useless because you cannot cite its source.

STEP 3: STATE YOUR THESIS

Do some critical thinking and have your essay written down in one sentence. Doing this you declare your stand and your belief on the subject. The main portion of your essay will consist of arguments supported by facts to support and defend this belief.

STEP 4: MAKE A TENTATIVE OUTLINE

The main purpose of having an outline is to help you think through your essay carefully and have it organized logically before you begin to write. For you to write a good essay you have to prepare an outline and adhere to it. Check your outline to ensure the point flow in a logical manner. A general outline will contain the following:

THE INTRODUCTION

THE BODY

THE CONCLUSION

All point must relate to the topic. Begin stating your points from the ones that are stronger to the one that are the strongest. This helps you to hook the reader to your paper, as they will want to know the next thing you have to say.

STEP 5: ORGANIZE YOUR NOTES

Organize all the information you gather according to your outline. Do not include any information that does not support your thesis statement. Any irrelevant information or any information you do not understand should not be included in your paper. Organize the data collected and write it in your own words. Plagiarism is definitely not an option in this case. As you organize your notes, remember to include the bibliographical information on all the borrowed ideas or quotes written accurately.

STEP 6: WRITE A DRAFT

Begin with a draft a try to write your paper as required. Follow the outline you already prepared and jot down all the important information you already gathered. After you have finished writing your draft, go through it and make any changes necessary. The changes may be spelling error, you forgot to indicate some of the information, or simply some of your points are not indicated logically. Do this until you are certain that your paper is all set. When it comes to editing your essay, be sure to do a thorough job.

STEP 7: WRITE FINAL PAPER

Go through your draft and write the final paper emitting the changes you made. Write your final paper carefully avoiding unnecessary mistakes. Read the assignment sheet to ensure all the requirements are met. Proofread the final paper and check for any errors. Print out your paper and deliver a clean and presentable paper.
